Roquette Beauté’s plant-based dextrin launch targets microbiome diversity and hydration
07 Apr 2022 --- Plant-based ingredient specialist Roquette Beauté has unveiled Beauté by Roquette DE 006 (INCI Dextrin), a “100% plant-based dextrin” for soothing the skin and preserving the skin microbiome at the in-cosmetics Global trade show in Paris.
PersonalCareInsights reports from the showfloor of the exhibition, speaking to the company’s representatives about the rising consumer demand for natural, skin- and scalp-soothing ingredients, especially for preserving the diversity of the skin microbiome.
“The addition of Beauté by Roquette DE 006 to our product range is a great demonstration of our pledge to bring innovative plant-based solutions to the cosmetics industry that meet consumer’s expectations for safer products with the right balance of nature and technology,” says Bénédicte Courel, general manager at Roquette Beauté.
Roquette Beauté analysis highlights that consumers are growing more aware of skin problems associated with an imbalanced skin microbiota. Hence there is a growing demand for plant-based skincare products that are also microbiome-friendly.
Tested benefits for soothing skin
The company carried out multiple tests showing that Beauté by Roquette DE 006 reduces the pro-inflammatory marker (IL-1 alpha). It also reduced the transepidermal water loss caused by chemical and mechanical factors.
Additionally, it reduces skin’s redness caused by chemical aggressors in both the skin and scalp.
Beauté by Roquette DE 006 has also been microbiome-friendly certified, Cosmos approved, Nature approved and is suitable for vegans.
A research team previously spoke with PersonalCareInsights about the effects of aging on the skin microbiome composition, which changes over time, leading to thinning and dry skin.
Companies such as Sequential Bio are already offering in-vivo microbiome product testing and certification. The skin microbiome modulators market is rapidly growing to approximately reach US$3 billion by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate of 15% between 2020 to 2030, according to the company.
Preserving skin harmony
Roquette Beauté shares that the skin has an average surface of 2 meters squared. So the skin microbiome is one of the largest and likely to be the most diverse.
Hence, it is critical to balance the harmony of the microbiota to protect and balance the skin barrier. Doing so can prevent skin issues such as dehydration, sensitivity and inflammation.
Additionally, each person has a unique skin microbiota. This means that various external factors can influence the balance, such as temperature changes, UV exposure, harsh products, synthetic products, pollution and lifestyle.
Among other featured launches at the Global in-cosmetics 2022 event, Givaudan Active Beauty unveiled Patchoul’Up, a hair and skincare ingredient that is microbiome-friendly. Mibelle Biochemistry also spotlighted its plant-based retinol alternative and upcycled coffee skin for moisturization.
