Seppic says it has reached a “milestone” by demonstrating a direct link between the plant vesicles and efficacy of its Celtosome ingredients. The company has precisely measured the concentration of exosomes — intercellular messengers — within the actives.
Exosomes are increasingly popular in cosmetic care. These nano-vesicles with a diameter of 30 to 150 nm transfer biological signals, allowing cells to repair one another.
However, Seppic notes that it is challenging for brands to rely on a precise and reproducible concentration derived from plant sources that comply with international regulations.
The company says its Celtosome plant biotechnology meets this requirement. The range is developed through an engineering process that cultivates native and undifferentiated plant cells from the halophyte species Eryngium maritimum and Crithmum maritimum. The ingredients offer low-impact sourcing, as Seppic uses a single seed or plant fragment to initiate a cell culture in bioreactors.
Seppic reports that it has quantified the presence of approximately 4,000 exosomes per plant cell in the ingredients’ biomass. Its engineering process ensures a standardized concentration of 50 million plant exosomes per microliter of active ingredient, providing a “defined matrix to optimize skin targeting.”
The Celtosome range includes two flagship active ingredients, Celtosome Crithmum Maritimum (Crithmum Maritimum Callus Culture Filtrate) and Celtosome Eryngium Maritimum (Eryngium Maritimum Callus Culture Filtrate).
Longevity skin care
Seppic says that its Celtosome range offers brands a natural solution that combines clinical evidence with quantified exosomes.
The company’s research shows that Celtosome Eryngium Maritimum delivers 720 million exosomes per gram of formula at a recommended use level of 0.05%. This ingredient is positioned for skin care targeting the signs of aging.
Evaluations on its isolated exosome fractions show up to 34% increase in stimulation of collagen I synthesis in fibroblasts, reports Seppic.
Other research by the company demonstrates that the ingredient shows a 103% increase in dermal hyaluronic acid production and a 34% growth in elastin.
Seppic says: “This comprehensive structural activity translates clinically into a significant smoothing effect, measured by a 12% reduction in the surface area of crow’s feet wrinkles after 28 days of application.”
Meanwhile, the other ingredient in the range — Celtosome Crithmum Maritimum — is positioned for skin clarity, radiance, and longevity applications. It delivers 1.44 billion exosomes per gram of cream when used at 0.1%, according to the company.

Earlier this year, Seppic told Personal Care Insights that the beauty industry is undergoing a paradigm shift toward “celebrating aging with vitality.”
