“Touchless hydration”: SkinCeuticals expands phyto portfolio with Corrective Essence Mist
25 Aug 2022 --- SkinCeuticals debuts in the essence category with the launch of an easy-to-layer hydrating botanical essence mist ideal for daily use. The Phyto Corrective Essence Mist is formulated with a 6.2% blend of hyaluronic acid and glycerin that aid in water retention while strengthening the skin’s barrier.
The mist has a soothing effect that is “highly effective” in reducing the look of redness and following professional treatments and procedures, according to the brand.
“I use [the mist] with my patients following laser treatments and they notice an immediate difference in visibly reduced redness. It fits seamlessly into my practice,” says SkinCeuticals’ partner physician, Dr. Rachel Reyes-Bergan.
Reduction in redness
SkinCeuticals announces the launch of Phyto Corrective Essence Mist with a 35% hydration improvement in just eight hours.
The product was clinically tested to determine the efficacy of the formulation.
Twenty-six subjects were evaluated for transepidermal water loss which occurs when the skin’s protective barrier is damaged or impaired. Using a tewameter (measuring device) at baseline and one hour after application of Phyto Corrective Essence Mist, it was found that the product strengthens the skin barrier.
Another four-week clinical study was conducted on 25 females, aged between 18 to 65, with mild to moderate visible redness, rough skin texture, dullness and fine lines and wrinkles.
Phyto Corrective Essence Mist was applied to the face once a day in conjunction with sunscreen and reapplied throughout the day as needed. Immediate reduction in visible redness by 31% was revealed in the test.
Evaluating hydration
The mist was evaluated for hydration on bare skin at baseline, 15 minutes, one hour and eight hours. Also, to assess for hydration when applied over makeup evaluation was made at baseline, one hour and eight hours.
The formulation was discovered to increase overall hydration by 69%, with a 35% improvement in eight hours.
A separate split-face, single-center clinical study was conducted on 21 subjects aged between 19 and 70.
The participants received a full face, non-ablative fractional laser procedure, followed by the application of Phyto Corrective Essence Mist to a randomized facial half immediately after the treatment and twice daily for one week.
Tolerance parameters were evaluated 20 minutes after the first application and after one week of product usage. The mist has also been clinically tested to be safe and effective post non-ablative fractional laser.
Adding to skincare routines
The Phyto Essence Mist has been formulated as a “touchless mist” and is paraben-, alcohol-, gluten- and silicone-free.
“We delivered on standard science and innovation in an easy-to-use mist that can be used at home or in combination with clinical procedures in-office,” remarks Amy Sloan, head of SkinCeuticals US.
The product has been recommended for use in the morning following an antioxidant serum or in the evening prior to a corrective serum. It can also be reapplied throughout the day with or without makeup or on skin post-laser and following aesthetic treatments.

The Phyto Essence Mist has been formulated as a “touchless mist” and is paraben-, alcohol-, gluten- and silicone-free.
Recent moves in the skin hydration space, Albolene introduced a range of hydrating facial cleansers, including Hydrating Micellar Milk Cleanser, Hydrating Daily Cleanser and Hydrating Cleansing Balm.
According to the company, a clinical study that compared the Hydrating Micellar Milk Cleanser to competitors in the makeup removal market, Albolene’s formula ranked first overall for makeup removal, was up to three times as effective at removing waterproof makeup and provided more than four times the amount of moisture.
Micelle technology was used by the hydrating Micellar Milk Cleanser to easily collect and remove dirt, oil and makeup without removing the skin’s natural oils.
Cetaphil also expanded the Optimal Hydration facial line to include two hydration-based body products: Sheer Hydration Body Spray Moisturizer and Sheer Hydration Replenishing Body Lotion.
Notable benefits of Cetaphil Optimal Hydration include 50% increased hydration, an in-vitro study finds. The products also calm the skin and improve its texture and glow.
