Vampyre Cosmetics creates horror-themed Silent Hill makeup collection
05 Sep 2023 --- Vampyre Cosmetics has partnered with Konomi, the Tokyo-based video game company, to create a makeup collection inspired by the Silent Hill franchise. The packaging features artwork and imagery from the game to captivate the players.
“Silent Hill is one of the most iconic horror games of all time, and we wanted to create a collection that would do justice to the game’s dark and atmospheric aesthetic,” says Rachel Clinesmith, founder and CEO of Vampyre Cosmetics.
The officially licensed collection features lipstick, eyeshadows, blushes and nail polishes.
Silent Hill is a series of survival horror games. The franchise has expanded to include various print pieces, two feature films and spin-off video games. Konomi has also confirmed a remake of the Silent Hill “franchise favorite” Silent Hill 2.
Horror-inspired makeup
The three liquid lipsticks are limited edition and will only be available in the box set through the pre-order. The colors are called rust, flesh and brown.
The two palettes are called the Pyramid Head Palette and the Bubble Head Nurse Palette, referencing the video game.
A third palette is available, not included in the collection, in the shape of a bunny named Robbie The Rabbit. The additional eyeshadow palette is unavailable for purchase during pre-sale, only on launch.
The collection is available for pre-sale online on the company’s website. The beauty brand is also available at Hot Topic and over 130 independent stores worldwide.
Entertainment partnerships
It is commonplace for franchises – such as video games or movies – to partner with beauty brands to create inspired products. In the past year, five entertainment collaborations have produced a total sales of £15.4 million (US$19.4 million) for Lush.
Lush created a Super Mario Bros. Movie collection, the Barbie x Lush collaboration. The Barbie x Lush products generated over £1.7 million (US$2.1 million) in sales across the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, UAE, Taiwan, Bahrain and Hong Kong. It comes just after the natural packaging-free soap brand introduced its SpongeBob Squarepants collection in June.
This week, Sally Hansen launched its latest nail polish collection in partnership with the newest chapter of DreamWorks Animation’s musical film franchise, Trolls Band Together. Branded the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri x Trolls, the limited-edition range launches just before the film’s release in November.
