Sun care in the spotlight
Sun care is an increasingly evolving landscape in the personal care industry. Consumers are craving sun protection in multiple product formats, such as skin care and makeup, and expect excellent sensory and color properties.
Innova Market Insights’ data suggests that globally, the sun care category has grown 8% from April 2020 to March 2025. While sun protection remains the most frequently launched subcategory, there has been a notable rise in self-tanning and bronzer product launches, offering consumers alternatives to traditional sunbathing.
According to 42% of consumers worldwide, “long-lasting” is the most influential claim when purchasing sun care products.
Kevin Hedou, technical sales manager at Brenntag, previously told Personal Care Insights: “There’s a big push toward cleaner, more sustainable [sun care] products and long-lasting applications. We’re seeing more hybrid products, like tinted moisturizers or serums with SPF. There is also a growing demand for sunscreens linked to anti-aging benefits, as consumers increasingly focus on preventative skin care solutions.”
