Get lippy: COSRX debuts lip care collection, Berry scores awards for eco-friendly lip products packaging
17 Aug 2021 --- Korean skin care brand COSRX is debuting its first collection of lip products, which features four formulations that are touted as smoothing, plumping, softening and quenching the lips.
Meanwhile, as the race to sustainability continues, Berry Global, a plastic packaging manufacturer, landed an award for its environmentally sustainable lip products packaging.
For your lips only
COSRX’s lip collection is designed to help solve problems caused by wearing face masks during the pandemic, the company supports.
The launch of the lip care collection reflects increased demand for lip products in the COVID-19 era. Chronic mask-wearing has led to a rise in dryness, irritation and chapping around the mouth, according to COSRX representatives.
Lips do not have oil glands, unlike the rest of the skin on the body. When lips feel dry, licking them leads to more dryness and chapping.
The company’s lip collection features Honey Sugar Lip Scrub, a gentle lip exfoliant that targets dryness and flakes with sugar and honey.
It also includes, Lip Plump AHA BHA Vitamin C Lip Plumper, which is a glossy lip plumper made with exfoliating AHA and BHA that dissolves dead skin on the lips. The lip plumper is positioned as delivering a subtle plumping effect and luminous sheen.
Full-Fit Propolis Lip Sleeping Mask is an overnight treatment that delivers intense hydration to dry lips with Honey-6 complex, a blend of propolis, honey, royal jelly, beeswax and fermented extracts that restore suppleness to the skin.
Balancium Ceramide Lip Butter Sleeping Mask is made with shea butter and naturally derived ceramides. The formula is positioned as an aid to relieve and moisturize dry and chapped skin.
Industry players have been voicing the development within the “clean beauty” space. Multitasking balms is one of the top five clean beauty trends for 2021, revealed by Whole Foods Market’s Trends Council.
Sustainable packaging
Berry Global won a German packaging award in the sustainability category for its Lip Care stick solution.
Lip Care stick was recognized for its move to a mono-material pack, improving recyclability and reducing weight while maintaining full functionality and consumer convenience.
The Lip Care stick’s design has been optimized from a four-part assembly with a polyoxymethylene (POM) piston to a three-part version with a polypropylene (PP) piston. As well as being easier to recycle as its components are made from PP, the three-part construction is lighter than its previous version.
In the same arena, Eco Lips introduced PlantPod, a plastic-free, 100 percent plant-based tube pod for lip balm recipes in the US.
In addition, to remove virgin plastic, LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics employed Eastman Cristal Renew copolyester array of packaging solutions in Dior Addict Lip Maximizer.
Sustainability was recently highlighted by the CEO of Sulapac, who said it is necessary for cosmetic packaging.
