Harry Styles rolls out gender-defying beauty line of nail polish and face serums
22 Nov 2021 --- Pop singer Harry Styles, acclaimed for gender-fluid red carpet looks, has unveiled his own beauty brand, Pleasing. The first promotional images for the collection of nail polishes and serums were posted on social media, featuring Styles himself and captioned “Find your Pleasing.”
“When we decided Pleasing would make beauty products I wanted to be sure they were something I would use,” remarks the singer. “I didn’t want to make products to mask people, I wanted to highlight them and make them feel beautiful.”
Pleasing and cruelty-free
The Pleasing beauty range is marketed as vegan and cruelty-free. It currently offers six products, which include four nail polishes, a dual roller ball lip and eye serum, and a facial serum.
The brand recently launched its official website where its products are available for pre-order. Shipments will begin at the end of the month.
Pleasing’s packaging motif – namely, its nail polishes’ opalescent spherical caps and illuminating face serum’s bottle decorated with pearly beads – was inspired as an “ode to the beauty found in a simple shell” and as a nod to one of Styles’ favorite accessories.
The star explained how he was “inspired by the Japanese skin divers, female divers who collected pearls with no gear, just a net.”
“Their skin looks so fresh, shining in the sun, and I wanted a product that would give that feeling like you’ve just come from the cold ocean.”
Gender-defying polish
Pleasing’s campaign models include both men and women, celebrating “the multitude of unique identities in our community.”
Pleasing nail polishes come in four shades and sport names inspired by pearls. The line includes a white shade called Perfect Pearl, a pale pink called Granny’s Pearls, a black nail polish with a navy sheen named Inky Pearl and a clear topcoat dubbed Pearly Tops.
Often sporting mismatched manicures, Styles’ name has been added to a list of male celebrities to launch nail products in recent years, including A$AP Rocky, Machine Gun Kelly and Lil Yachty.
Beauty of the stars
Style’s new rollout follows a string of star-powered beauty launches in recent weeks, which include supermodel Iman’s debut fragrance, Love Memoir – a tribute to her romance with her husband, pop legend David Bowie.
In the same week, Australian supermodel and businesswoman Miranda Kerr partnered with Amazon to launch her Kora Organics skincare brand alongside its holiday gift guide.
Earlier this month, Billie Eilish debuted her fragrance, aptly named Eilish, and branded as a “warm and fuzzy” Amber Gourmand scent.
In other moves, Kate Beckinsale was appointed the brand spokesperson MRVL Skin solution’s new beauty line, which formulates with one of the world’s most rare and expensive liquids, blue scorpion venom. The ingredient is a 434 million-year-old ingredient from the Caribbean Islands that has been used for its healing and healthy aging benefits.
