“Non-steroid option” possible for sensitive skin, Colorescience exec says
25 Jan 2022 --- Cosmetics and skincare company, Colorescience is expanding its All Calm line of redness corrector products. “Many people who suffer from skin sensitivity and redness depend on steroids and are looking for a non-steroid option that can help them with more consistent and resilient skin,” Kay Seiden, marketing director at Colorescience, tells PersonalCareInsights.
“The All Calm sensitive skin regimen products take a comprehensive approach without the use of steroids. They protect against the triggers that cause skin irritation and redness.”
The new All Calm multi-correction serum features BioSolace ingredient complex to help calm vulnerable and sensitive skin and through continued use, addresses the appearance of redness-prone skin.
The addition of crystalide helps to support epidermal integrity while phytomoist and glycerin provide intense hydration. The result is smoother and deeply hydrated skin.
Colorescience notes that the All Calm multi-correction serum is effective alone or as part of the complete All Calm Sensitive Skin Regimen, including All Calm, clinical redness Corrector SPF 50 and sunforgettable total protection brush-on shield SPF 50.
Formulating the BioSolace complex
Colorescience’s BioSolace component is used in the new All Calm multi-correction serum, which decreases inflammation with sustained usage, adds Seiden.
“To create the BioSolace complex, we studied various sensitive skin conditions and then targeted the elements responsible for triggering skin sensitivity and the effects and symptoms,” Patricia Boland, vice president of R&D at Colorescience, also tells PersonalCareInsights.
“Our goal was to defend against the major triggers of inflammation while helping to minimize redness and improve the overall epidermal integrity,” continues Boland.
In sourcing the ingredient, Boland explains that each raw material was obtained through reputable ingredient suppliers, who shared all safety and clinical testing and origin and analytical statements.
“Once the BioSolace complex was completed, we then designed specific formats for both the All Calm SPF 50 product and the All Calm multi correction serum based on their usage indications and then added supportive ingredients to provide additional benefits such as immediate color correction and SPF or textural improvement and hydration, respectively.”
Clinically-backed sensitive skin routine
The All Calm sensitive skin regimen was clinically studied as a stand-alone regimen or incorporated into any existing skincare routine.
According to Colorescience, all study subjects agreed they saw an overall improvement in their appearance, with skin that looked and felt healthier with less noticeable skin inflammation. These results followed a 12-week clinical study conducted to assess the efficacy, tolerability and global improvement of the All Calm clinical redness regimen.
Additionally, 93% of participants found their skin texture to be smoother, softer and less rough, while 73% agreed that the serum alone calmed their skin.
“The new serum is weightless and colorless. It is suitable for day and night use,” adds Seiden.
Alleviating skin redness
Industry players have been testing and formulating ingredients that address skin inflammation and redness. According to a Mibelle Biochemistry study, its ingredients Alpine Rose Active, InfraGuard, KeraGuard and PhytoCellTec Goji were shown to aid in reducing skin redness and scalp itching.
Previously, Lycored’s Lumenato improved skin hydration, elasticity and redness by restoring the balance of vital fatty acids and antioxidants. Meanwhile, US-based SkinCeuticals Advanced Scar Control reduced visible redness and softened and smoothed scar texture.
