Symrise has signed a put option agreement to acquire Floral Concept, a French premium natural ingredients fragrance house. If completed, the acquisition positions Symrise competitively in the natural fine fragrance space as demand for ethical and differentiated ingredients grows across perfumery.
The deal would also bring together Floral Concept and Maison Lautier — Symrise’s natural ingredients fragrance house — in Pays de Grasse, France, in a Naturals cluster.
The move is part of the cosmetic ingredient supplier’s One Symrise strategy, aiming to drive growth and fiscal resilience. The transaction is expected to close in Q3 of 2023.
According to Symrise, Fine Fragrance is experiencing a growing demand for responsibly sourced, traceable, and differentiated ingredients. The company says that the appetite for specialty extracts and natural ingredients fine-tuned by technological advancements is on the rise as consumers seek unique olfactive profiles and performance.
The Floral Concept acquisition would enable Symrise to differentiate and broaden its fragrance offerings, allowing customers greater creative possibilities in premium fragrance compositions.
Growing perfumery portfolio
Aligned with the One Symrise strategy, the transaction works in tandem with the company’s capital allocation and active portfolio management priorities. The acquisition is said to advance Symrise’s portfolio optimization strategy and its targets to deliver resilient, profitable growth and strong cash flow.
“With Floral Concept, we contemplate acquiring a high-quality growth platform fully aligned with the One Symrise strategic priorities,” says Michael Friede, president of the Scent & Care Segment at Symrise. “I am convinced this will support the continued evolution of our portfolio toward more differentiated, resilient, and value-creating businesses”

Natural fragrance ingredients
Founded in 2002, Floral Concept says it has high standards of quality and authenticity in premium natural fragrance ingredients, with a focus on sourcing and processing natural raw materials into fragrance ingredients.
“We have built Floral Concept around quality, authenticity, and long-term relationships with producers and customers,” says Frédérique Rémy, general manager at Floral Concept. “In Symrise, we see a partner that understands Naturals, values the Grasse ecosystem, and can support the next phase of Floral Concept’s development through its global reach and fragrance expertise.”
Floral Concepts is touted to bring artisanal expertise with transformation capabilities. The company boasts a portfolio of natural fragrance ingredients derived from botanicals such as jasmine, rose, orange blossom, ambrette, and blackcurrant.
The Naturals cluster, established by the union of Floral Concept and Maison Lautier, aims to combine complementary capabilities across responsible sourcing, extraction, transformation, and fragrance creation.
“We have created an opportunity to expand creative and technical possibilities in premium natural ingredients,” says Ricardo Omori, president of the Global Fragrance Division at Symrise.
“By combining Floral Concept’s sourcing and extraction expertise with Maison Lautier’s heritage of innovation, we will create a new benchmark for creativity, quality, and sustainability in perfumery.”
This combination is said to develop Symrise’s premium Naturals capabilities, furthering its efforts to position itself as a leading player in Premium Naturals while reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, traceability, and long-term partnerships across the value chain.
