Haut.AI debuts SkinGPT as “breakthrough” virtual try-on with photorealistic simulations
20 Apr 2023 --- Software service company Haut.AI has unveiled SkinGPT, making it the “first” to incorporate generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology for modeling skin conditions. Users can use the AI to create synthetic images to see how their skin might change over time when using certain skincare products.
“Generative AI is omnipresent, and beauty shouldn’t lag. I am proud that Haut.AI is the first to introduce generative skincare AI,” says Anastasia Georgievskaya, co-founder and CEO at Haut.AI.
“Our technology educates consumers and allows them to get transparency on the effects promised by beauty brands. SkinGPT is just beginning, further facilitating R&D through synthetic images and unlocking new heights in the beauty industry. We’re committed to pushing the boundaries of AI in skincare and SkinGPT is proof of our ongoing research.”
Generative AI is a set of algorithms that produces a seemingly realistic output based on the inserted data. An example is the infamous chatbot, ChatGPT by OpenAI. With SkinGPT users can upload images of themselves, which SkinGPT uses to create new images.
Bridging consumer expectations
Haut.AI notes that SkinGPT can fill the gap between consumer expectations and product efficacy by allowing for visualization of long-term effects.
The company targets beauty brands and retailers who can use SkinGPT in e-commerce.
SkinGPT will educate consumers on the changes their skin might undergo when using (or not using) certain products. To ensure accuracy, Haut.AI. uses simulations based on given products’ clinical claims.
Education and technology
Haut.AI shares that SkinGPT raises awareness of environmental factors and how they might impact the skin. For instance, allergens, solar insolation and pollution can cause inflammation. However, consumers are unaware of the consequences.
Therefore, SkinGPT can be used to showcase the importance of taking preventative measures as it visualizes adverse effects over months. It also enables R&D by generating synthetic images of aging and product and environmental damage.
With the goal of educating young consumers, Haut.AI wants to emphasize the importance of skincare for teens and those in their twenties as they tend to “neglect adequate skincare” compared to the mature group.
“Haut.AI’s SkinGPT combines generative pre-trained transformers, diffusion models, GANs and classical computer vision models, enabling the creation of photorealistic images,” details the company.
“Image-to-image and noise-to-image conversion techniques are used, utilizing computer vision models for skin assessment and image generation.”
Solutions to current generative AI
Acknowledging the limitations of generative AI, Haut.AI expresses its determination to “push the boundaries of AI in skincare continuously.”
The company plans to expand its AI offerings in collaboration with DALL-E for skin, a text-to-image tool for the beauty industry. It aims to become a toolbox for AI-powered beauty solutions via personalization.
“SkinGPT is a game-changer in the skincare industry, providing a fun and engaging way to gamify technology while providing tangible benefits,” adds Haut.AI. “SkinGPT enables the first-ever skincare virtual try-on with photorealistic simulations and scientific backing.”
