Cetaphil delivers personalized skincare treatments with new AI diagnosis platform
06 Mar 2023 --- Sensitive skincare brand Cetaphil has unveiled Cetaphil AI Skin Analysis, a comprehensive skin analyzer offering personalized skin assessment scores and skincare regimen recommendations delivered in seconds. The technology is designed for consumers to better understand their individual skin concerns as well as the products needed to address them.
The platform was created jointly with Perfect Corp., which deploys artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) experiences to create beauty tech solutions.
“We are committed to innovating inclusive, personalized solutions that ease the worries of those with this common skin concern,” comments Silvina Nordenstohl, head of US at Galderma, parent company of Cetaphil.
“We are proud to offer the Cetaphil AI Skin Analysis as a complement to our existing Cetaphil Skincare Finder, further helping consumers select which of our 70+ product solutions may be right for them and taking the guesswork out of daily skincare for sensitive skin.”
Tailored insights using AI deep learning
Cetaphil’s new AI skin analysis tool rollout is the latest in a series of similar releases Perfect Corp., including a partnership with India-based Good Glamm Group to offer virtual try-on and AI skin analysis experiences that aim to revolutionize the shopping experience for customers in the subcontinent.
Cetaphil AI Skin Analysis is based on Perfect Corp’s AI Skin Analysis technology and is designed as a clear, user-friendly experience on the Cetaphil US website.
The skin scanning technology features AI deep learning to deliver its precise, personalized skin assessments. The technology is anticipated to transform skincare retail by empowering skincare brands like Cetaphil to provide product recommendations tailored to each customer’s unique skin concerns.
With the snap of a selfie, the tool’s state-of-the-art technology compares the photo to a robust database of 70,000 diverse skin images to create an inclusive, personalized report revealing skin type, skin concerns and proneness to various skin conditions.
Armed with curated insights from eight categories such as acne, redness, hydration, dark spots and wrinkles, consumers can then leverage the results to make more informed skincare decisions.
Perfect Corp. maintains, through citing its latest global beauty trend report, that AI skin technology is a “precise, cost-effective consultation solution” for the dermatology and medical spa industries. Based on performance, these novel platforms are considered viable alternatives to large imaging booth hardware.
Testing the reliability rate
Perfect Corp.’s AI Skin Analysis Technology recently underwent validation testing with Dr. Steven R. Feldman, professor of Dermatology at the Wake Forest School of Medicine.
During the study, the technology was confirmed to have a 95% test-retest reliability rate, delivering “consistent, highly accurate” skin assessments with each scan.
"AI skin tech can be a fantastic tool and useful first step in gaining an understanding of one's personal skincare needs. Bringing digital skin analysis results to a dermatologist appointment allows patients to have a more meaningful visit and productive conversation,” says Dr. Steven Feldman, professor of dermatology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
“AI skin technology has become essential to provide consumers with personalized skincare experiences,” affirms Alice Chang, Perfect Corp. founder and CEO.
“With the power of advanced AI tech, Cetaphil's enhanced retail journey will allow customers to understand their skin and the product regimens needed to their skin goals.”
Age of the virtual skincare advisor
As AI-powered skin diagnosis solutions undergo continuous refinement, these solutions are becoming more specialized, closing in on more specific target areas. Brands are increasingly aware of their potential to elevate consumer engagement.
Last September, Revieve partnered with JCPenney to introduce an AI skincare advisor and a hyper-real AR makeup try-on technology to personalize the customer shopping experience. The company has also formed a strategic alliance with Google Cloud to further accelerate omnichannel digital transformations toward personalized solutions.
Revieve also recently released a complete metaverse playbook for beauty brands to take full advantage of virtual spaces, outlining the future of the metaverse and giving advice on how personal care companies might better navigate it.
Last month, over 200 industry players gathered at the upcoming US Beauty Tech & Innovation Summit in San Francisco, forming a hub showcasing personalized solutions, alongside other digital innovations and technical formulation know-how.
