27 Sep 2023 --- German chemical supplier Nordmann and Uviva Technologies (France) have joined forces to distribute zinc oxide solutions for personal care.
Uviva Technologies, a subsidiary of Grillo Group, is an expert in manufacturing zinc oxide for sun care and personal care products.
“We are looking forward to the new collaboration. The projects planned in the coming weeks and months herald a bright future,” comments Xavier Fabre, technical sales and product manager of Personal Care, HI&I at Nordmann France SAS.

Natural mineral for sun care
Nordmann notes zinc as a “material of the future” is “versatile, sustainable, durable and 100% recyclable.”Zinc as a “material of the future” is “versatile, sustainable, durable and 100% recyclable.”
Zinc oxide is created via zinc combustion and is inorganic and insoluble. Within sun care, zinc is a natural mineral used in sunscreens and cosmetics.

Uviva Technologies seeks to continuously expand the applications of zinc to a wide range of applications. The company helps cosmetic formulators develop sunscreens for desired aesthetics and SPF and UVA protection.
“Eclipse Z1, for example, offers maximum transparency along with the industry’s highest levels of UVA and UVB absorption,” shares Nordmann.
High-purity quality for personal care applications
Uviva Technologies helps personal care and skin care products meet trends, regulatory requirements and certification criteria for natural ingredients.
For instance, its ZincoSense zinc oxide can be used to make skin care products, such as baby lotions, diaper creams and other skin protection formulations.
“Uviva’s Eclipse Z1, Z2, ZA and ZincoSense products are Cosmos V4.0-certified. ZincoSense is also certified for non-UV applications,” adds Nordmann.

Re-examining the safety of certain sun care safety, Germany proposed a particular UV absorber as a substance of “very high concern” as it was found in breast milk.
Meanwhile, US representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez challenged the US FDA’s regulation on sunscreen, vocalizing a need to expand the list of approved ingredients to improve UV protection, sparking the conversation around: “Is sunscreen socialist?”
The French Ministry for Ecological Transition was seeking public opinions on the national health agency’s draft Regulatory Management Option Analysis project to determine whether the UV filter octocrylene requires tighter measures to mitigate possible environmental risks.
