AI for hair loss? MDalgorithms unveils personalized adaptogenic solution from botanicals
17 Nov 2021 --- US-based MDalgorithms has released MDhair, pegged as the “first” AI-based treatment for hair loss. The digital solution involves AI and computer vision to identify the root cause of hair loss for personalized treatment. In addition, this hair loss solution combines the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved medications with dermatologist-formulated botanicals, adaptogens and probiotics.
MDhair is branded as a “new generation of medical-grade treatment that is clean and vegan.”
“We are on a mission to democratize dermatology with AI, offering a highly effective and affordable hair loss treatment to everyone, everywhere,” says Oded Harth, CEO of MDalgorithms.
The US has over 21 million women struggling with hair loss, perplexed by the plethora of treatment options and not sure where to turn, adds Harth.
“Most hair loss patients never even see a dermatologist,” he continues. “When they do, these office visits can be prohibitively expensive. The other option, the ‘one-size-fits-all’ products sold online and in drugstores, are simply ineffective and frequently irritating.”
He explains that customizing the treatment to the root cause of hair loss and the specific characteristics of the scalp and hair in each woman is essential to treatment efficacy.
As hair care becomes increasingly important, companies are developing NPD to boost hair health. Also leveraging a solution to boost hair health is Skin and Cancer Associates, with its NeoGraft Hair Restoration formula for hair loss. This treatment enables patients to regrow lost hair with natural-looking results.
NeoGraft uses its Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technology for hair transplantation. The FUE method removes individual hair follicles from the scalp in naturally occurring groupings of about one to four hairs. It then places the hair groupings in the areas of the scalp where balding has occurred.
In other moves, US-based Kintsugi Hair released KeraNew, a hair supplement created with natural ingredients that help to combat the signs of aging by “feeding” hair from the inside out.
Meanwhile, other new launches from GRW for Hair, Bumble & bumble and Dr.ForHair are addressing target areas such as “after-summer scalp health,” as well as making use of new advancements to aid the nourishment and hydration of different hair types.
AI drives change in industry
Industry players have been tapping into AI solutions for skin, makeup and fragrances.
Yesterday, Firmenich’s AI Formulae Generator for fragrances won Digital Innovation of the year in Switzerland. Meanwhile, South Korea-based Lululab’s AI Lumini Scalp won health and mobile app awards at Consumer Electronics Show.
The AI-based hair care solution Lumini Scalp analyzes the condition of the user’s scalp and then recommends a suitable treatment. Additionally, Nuritas, Perfect Corp., Coty and Avon México have each tapped into AI solutions for beauty and product personalization.
